The Book of Isfahan is a collection of short stories by seven contemporary writers that is recently released by Ofoq Publications.

The collection features seven stories themed on the city of Isfahan. All the stories take place in Isfahan portraying the mutual relations of man and the city from various socio-cultural angles. Among the city people, the characters attempting to retrieve an identity that has been impaired, torn to pieces and lost over centuries, now find it in the natural and social setting of Isfahan, as though their destiny has somehow been tied the destiny of the city.

The narratives are vibrant, visually robust, and alluring. The inter-dependency of characters and setting with so much stress on the play of spatio-temporal memory has however made it a little difficult for a person unfamiliar with the city to pursue the delicate mapping and play of nostalgia.

The stories are written by eminent contemporary writers of different generations: Asghar Abdollahi, Ali Khodaei, Ja’far Modarres-Sadeghi, Keyhan Khanjani, Nasibeh Fazlellahi, Mohammad Tolouei and Arash Sadeqbeigi.
