IAA to Document Iranian Masterpieces Kept in Hungary

The Iranian Academy of Arts (IAA) has plans to publish photos of Iranian masterpieces kept in museums or by private collectors across Hungary in a book, reports Tehran Times.

“The book will contain pictures of a collection of artworks mostly related to the Qajar era including manuscripts, seals, paintings, photos, earthenware, jewelry, Persian carpets and mirrors,” says Alireza Esmaeili, an official from IAA.

“Brief explanations along with detailed articles will also be included in the book, which is due to be published before spring,” he added. 

The project aims to introduce Iranian artworks kept in museums and private collections in other countries, he said.

“Iranian masterpieces which are kept in famous museums such as Metropolitan, Louver or Hermitage are well known by researchers and experts, however, there are numerous Iranian masterpieces kept in museums around the world which are almost left unknown to many and need to be introduced,” he said.

“Moreover,” he continued, “The academy had previously published a book containing photos of Iranian masterpieces in Polish museums and collections, which included over 400 artworks dating back to the pre-Islamic era. The book also included brief explanations about the artworks.”
